Sustainable construction
Planning and construction are becoming increasingly more demanding. In order to meet important aspects of sustainable development in the building industry, strategies are needed for environmental design that is sensitive, culturally demanding and humane – in both Switzerland and internationally.
ETH Zurich has defined Sustainable Construction as a key strategic area. With new professorships, it aims to enhance and connect the existing competences in research and teaching. In addition, trans-disciplinary research activities in key subject areas are to be intensified, knowledge transfer promoted and the supply of a new generation of engineers for the building industry accelerated. In this way, it endeavours to ensure that responsibility is taken to reflect the needs of society, the environment, the economy and the building culture.
Aims:
- a targeted increase of new professorships in the Departments of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, Architecture and Materials Science
- a project fund for sustainable construction
- an increase in programmes to promote young talent
Support achieves:
- greater numbers of competent young engineers for the building industry
- new findings for strategies for building in the future
- more innovation through trans-disciplinary research and teaching projects
- higher visibility and a greater sense of involvement for ETH Zurich and participating partners hohe Sichtbar- und Erlebbarkeit für ETH Zürich und beteiligte Partner erreichen
